The Island of Molokai, the most Hawaiian Island!  Molokai is also known as the “Friendly Island” because the Aloha Spirit flourishes there.  If you are looking for the real, “Old Hawaii”, this is it!

My brother and his wife had never been to Molokai so on their visit this year we took the Molokai Princess Ferry across the Pailolo Channel to the town of Kaunakakai.  We chose to take the Molokai Guided Tour and what a great decision … the tour was fantastic!

The ferry ride was as smooth as glass going over and coming back, however it can get a little rough on the way back.  We left early in the morning so we were blessed with a beautiful sunrise over Haleakala Crater.  Coffee, pastries and fruit were provided on the ferry for the passengers on the guided tour.  The ferry ride in the winter is really spectacular since the whales are abundant.

Our tour guide was a local islander named Thadd!  He was incredibly knowledgeable and funny!  Boy could he talk!  He had lived most of his life on the island and knew it well.

This small island has a 500 acre coffee plantation and mill in the village of Kualapu’u.  It is the only source of 100% Molokai coffee.  The coffee was delicious.  The Macadamia Nut Farm Tour was my favorite.  We were able to crack and eat the nuts right off the tree.  However the Kalaupapa Look Out and all the history of Father Damien and the Leper colony was amazing!   Thadd gave us a multitude of information.

We stopped for lunch at the Molokai Hotel.  The restaurant wasn’t open when we took the tour but it is opening soon.  What a beautiful spot right on the ocean!

If you are looking for “Old Hawaii”, breathtaking natural beauty, an island where the tallest building is no bigger than a palm tree, an island where there is not a single traffic light, where the longest white sand beach in Hawaii will probably have only your foot prints on it, then Molokai is waiting for you!  I thoroughly enjoyed the Molokai Guided Tour and I am certain you will too.   Call Maui Sights and Treasures to book your trip to “Old Hawaii”. 808 879-6260
