After a short 30-45 minute flight, you’ll land outside the small town of Hilo, where the first thing you’ll see across the airport tarmac is a 13,803 ft. Volcano! Mauna Kea, is over 1 million years old. Mauna Kea means “White Mountain” in Hawaiian; named for it’s snowcapped peak.  We suggest that you have your camera ready as soon as you get off the plane!

Next, you’ll have an opportunity to grab a Hawaii coffee, and check out “Banyan Tree Drive.” Banyan Tree Drive’s famous history began in 1933 when the keiki trees were planted by Babe Ruth, Richard Nixon, Franklin D Roosevelt, and Amelia Earhart to name a few. Adjacent to Banyan Tree Drive is Lili’uokalani Park. THis 30-acre authentic Japanese Garden is considered the largest Japanese-style garden outside of Japan.

Experience one of the most famous and awe-inspiring waterfalls in all Hawaii, Akaka Falls. Akaka Falls is a perfect photo opportunity with its 80 ft waterfall, and lush background. Akaka Falls is definitley one of the most popular sights to see on the Big Island.
