Aloha, this blog post is for anyone interested in visiting the Island of Kauai.

Hanalei is on the northern, windward side of the Island, which means Hanalei gets a lot of rain.

In the summer, typically the trade winds back off and Hanalei and the remote Sea Cliffs of the Napali Coast become more accessible to observers, hikers and boaters.

I recently spent a week on Kauai and i did a lot of exploring! I would say half the days were sunny and beautiful and half rainy and beautiful. Keep in mind when it rains in Hawaii, it rarely does it all day, usually in passing showers, and talk about Rainbows! There were Rainbows and Waterfalls everywhere!

The drive to Hanalei is about 40 minutes from Kapa’a and an hour from Poipu.  My brother told me before i arrived that he thought Hanalei was the most picturesque town on the planet…

Even though it was a rainy day on both days i went to Hanalei, i still took some fun and colorful photos of the little shops and restaurants.  No one seemed to mind the rain, it was a light rain and warm.

That morning i had taken a 4 hr. Rafting Trip from Hanalei Bay out to the Napali Coast. Only the Ocean Rafting Tours can get in close and personal to the Lava Sea Caves along the coast and the best leave from Hanalei (shorter distance to the cliffs). You may also rent a Ocean Kayak in Hanalei to view the Napali Coast or Hike from Haena Beach Park along the Kalalau Trail. Kayaking up the Hanalei River is also a fun adventure, one I hope to experience on my next visit to the Island of Kauai.

I could not believe the number of Beaches on Kauai! It is the oldest Island so that does make sense. There are numerous beaches on the way to Hanalei as well as Hanalei Bay and the famous Hanalei Bay Pier; and then on to Haena Beach Park at the end of the road, beaches almost the whole way, and the occasional Taro field…

Even if it’s raining, bring a towel and sunscreen, here in Hawaii it rains in ‘passing showers’ and the sun will usually come out here and there throughout the day. Even if you do not go to the beach, there are enough colorful little shops and restaurants to make any shopper happy to spend a day in Hanalei!
