Athena Walsh 2015This post has been written specifically for our readers interested in a Maui Snorkel Tour departing from famous Kaanapali Beach. Written by Maui Sights and Treasures activity agent: Athena Walsh.

1 of my hardest decisions of the week is what to do on my days off…I am a ‘water person’ so I love all of the Snorkel Tours on Maui! Since I live in Kihei, I usually go out of Maalaea Harbor to snorkel Molokini Crater and Turtle town. I love that trip to Molokini, the water is always so clear and there is a multitude of boats to choose from.

However, what is really special, is to go one of the “beach loading sailing catamarans” that depart from Kaanapali Beach. Most often the Kaanapali boats head up to Honolua Bay, which is stunningly beautiful, as is the scenery along the way…

1 of our favorite boats on Maui is Kaanapali’s newest luxury sailing catamaran, the Queens Treasure. From the moment you see the Queens Treasure pulling up to the beach you know you are in for an extra special day! I was snapping pictures from the moment we left Kaanapali Beach… the scenery and the Ocean were so beautiful!Maui Snorkel Tour Queens Treasure- Volcano

Captain Nick was at the Helm, leaving Greg, Linda and Sam to help us with refreshments. This crew was fantastic, making sure we were comfortable with a drink or snack in our hand and giving us plenty of information on the island! We couldn’t help but have an excellent time! We were expecting high surf, so everyone was happy to have such a calm and gorgeous day out.

Queens Treasure is immaculate inside! The crew passed out snorkel gear and did a snorkel 101 refresher class for beginner and intermediate snorkelers alike while we were en-route to our snorkel destination.

We saw Flying Fish 3 different times throughout the day! I never get tired of seeing Fish with wings literally flying out of the water, plus I enjoy pointing the flying Fish out to the other guests on board and seeing their reactions.

Once at our snorkel destination we had over an hour to snorkel around looking for colorful tropical fish and the Honu; Hawaiian Sea Turtles!

Lunch and Cocktails were served as soon as we were done snorkeling. Half the time I go out on a Maui Snorkel Tour, I simply sit on the boat steps leading down into the Ocean with my Maitai. Don’t think that you have to get in the ocean… although most do and there is a life guard in the water with you for safety.
Lunch was excellent, with several choices of Wraps, Salads and Chips.

As we were sunbathing on the way back to Kaanapali, we ran into a school of Spinner Dolphins! The Dolphins came right up close to “ski’ along the bow of the boat! I managed to get several good photos before turning on the Video, and I now have several minutes of Spinner Dolphins ‘skiing’ along the bow of the Queens Treasure!

All in all it was a perfect day on the Ocean here in Hawaii. Luxury sailing catamaran, fun younger crew, good food, fun drinks, Flying Fish, Dolphins and a gorgeous day outside! What could be better…
