Aloha, and Welcome to our Maui Sights and Treasures Blog! This post has been written specifically for our readers that are looking for fun things to do on the Island of Kauai… Written by Maui Sights & Treasures staff: Athena Walsh
A lot of travelers and Kama’aina alike consider Kauai to be the most beautiful of all the Hawaiian Islands. Kauai is touted as being the Rainiest location on Earth! From lush Valleys, Forests full of Bamboo and tropical Flowers, to big beautiful Beaches, 3,000ft Sea Cliffs and Waimea Canyon just to mention a few Kauai’s main scenic attractions.
Kauai is the 4th largest of the Hawaiian Islands at 556 Sq. miles. For a small Island there is a lot of diversity in both the ‘aina (land) and its people.
Because of its northern most location, Kauai also sees more Hawaiian Monk Seals and gets its share of Honu, our Hawaiian Sea Turtles. Just another reason why a Kauai Snorkel Tour along the Napali Coast is a must do!
Since the old volcano, Mount Waiʻaleʻale, is also the ‘rainiest place on the planet’, Kauai also has some of the best and biggest waterfalls in Hawaii; many can be seen by the road or from vantage points like my Photo of Wailua River Falls above.
Other waterfalls are only accessible from a Helicopter Tour, like in my photo below…
The most famous geological feature of Kauai is a tie between the Napali Coast with its many Lava Sea Caves, secluded Beaches and 3,000 ft. Sea Cliffs and Waimea Canyon the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific”. Both are absolutely stunning!
Since 1933 Hollywood has filmed more Movies on the Island of Kauai than any other tropical paradise. From South Pacific, Raiders of the Lost Arc and The Descendants to Pirates of the Caribbean… a Kauai Movie Tour might not be amiss.
While Sunsets on the south side of Kauai are good, the West side has the best vantage point; however as the West side of Kauai is not accessible to cars, Poipu Beach and Hanalei Bay are excellent vantage points. I also recommend any 1 of the Kauai Sunset Cruises for optimal views and fun!
While the majority of the Kauai Dinner Cruises head towards Bali Hai or Napali Coast, (OMG those views!) there is 1 less expensive Kauai Sunset Cruise that departs from Poipu on Saturdays that is very fun and much shorter at only 2 hours for $69.
I hope you enjoyed learning a bit more about the Island of Kauai, this blog post is only 1 of several articles about life on the Island of Kauai. From ideas on where to stay and fun things to do on Kauai to the 2 Cacao (Chocolate!) Farms I found, to the Kauai Coffee Farm to hikes and beaches and so much more…
